Professor Reinhard Lührmann, co-ordinator of EURASNET, has been appointed president of the RNA Society for 2009.

Writing in the RNA Society newsletter Professor Lührmann said, "To take over the presidency of a thriving scientific body such as the RNA Society is a privilege and a challenge."

He said the challenges facing the society were to strengthen its worldwide basis and incorporate new areas of RNA research including microRNA and other newly discovered non-coding RNAs and RNA related biomedical research.
