Research Focus
My laboratory has been interested for many years in the study of intracellular signal transduction pathways and on their impact on gene expression at multiple levels. In particular, we are interested in cell differentiation processes that play a role in development and disease. In the last five years, we have focused our attention on the role played by Sam68 in these processes. Sam68 is a prototype of the STAR (Signal Transduction and Activation of RNA) family of RNA binding proteins. Sam68 is known to integrate signal transduction pathways with modulation of RNA processing and utilization, at the level of alternative splicing, nuclear export and cytoplasmic utilization.
